background on disaster

The area and natural disaster that I have chosen for this assignment is the Victorian bush fire that has been dubbed Black Saturday. On February the 7th 2009 47 major fires started in the parkland areas of Victoria, Australia. Aided by dry forest areas scorching heat and wild winds  the many fires reached havoc in Victoria. The most damaging of these fires the Kilmore East fire claimed 121 lives and destroyed countless homes.

idea of home

The home is a sanctuary for those that dwell in them. They provide both shelter and security while giving the dwellers a place that they can truly make their own. Home helps give a person both identity and security which is essential for all people.

week 1

Home is a place where you can be yourself and your home should reflect you and your attitude. “the home itself becomes a vehicle for expressing identity”. Porteous, J.D.(1976) Home: the territorial core.66(4)p.383.

The Home is a place where a person can feel safe from the outside world it protects you and helps to grant you peace of mind. “the concept of security includes both psychic security and physical security… both forms of security are obtained in the home.” Porteous, J.D.(1976) Home: the territorial core.66(4)p.383.

Home is not something that is constructed by builders they construct houses, the occupants of the house have to make a home. “ human beings are homemakers.” Mallett,s.(2004)understanding home: a critical review of literature. 52(1) p.38
